Northwest Passage High School opened as an independent charter school in 1999 and has been a leader in progressive education throughout the state and the nation ever since.   We pride ourselves on the quality of our teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, and administration. Our focus is on hiring adults who understand youth development, are leaders in their content area, and are dedicated to the profession of teaching and learning. With a focus on expeditions and field studies, staff at NWPHS share their joy of experiential learning and the outdoors by providing students with travel opportunities throughout Minnesota, the United States, and even Internationally.  We promote a professional learning community that seeks to hone our teaching craft while developing one of the most innovative schools in the nation.  As a Teacher-Powered School, NWPHS staff have a greater investment in the success of the school and our students.  In addition to serving in traditional teacher roles, our staff work as a team to conduct the business of running the school – including working on multiple committees, hiring staff, developing the academic curriculum, and serving as the majority of our elected school board.
